The Alchemist - Pursuing Your Personal Legend

"Because you will never again be able to keep it [heart] quiet. Even if you pretend not to have heard what it tells you, it will always be there inside you, repeating to you what you're thinking about life and about the world." ~ The Alchemist, Paulo Coelho

I’ve had this book in my possession for a few years but never picked it up, and I’m so glad I did earlier this week. This post is almost a reiteration of the blogpost before but they just so happen to coincide with each other on the topics I want to discuss.

Words are so powerful and I don’t think we as humans realize how much power they contain, whether through books or conversations.

From what I've gathered, and what I've learned from The Alchemist, it is to pursue all your desires no matter the setback and no matter the obstacles attempting to get in your way.

This book focuses on a shepherds journey after he has had two reoccurring dreams about finding treasure. He finds people along the way that push him and challenge him while he decides to go after his dream, whether he makes it or not is up to you to discover.

The boy also learns about listening to his heart and sacrificing things in order to go after his Personal Legend. Sacrifice is a major part of our lives if we're as determined to get what we want. Giving up something doesn't mean it's the end of the world, it just means that you're taking time away from something that may or may not be holding you back from you really desire. If you decide that whatever it was holding you back is important enough to go after, then do so, but don't forget to attend to your needs first.

Living in the present is another key factor that a reader can take away from this book. The book states that if you can focus on the present and attempt to figure out what needs to be improved than that will pave the way towards a better future. Don't spend so much time dreaming about the future and how to make sure everything goes according to plan. Focus on the now and what's in front of you, because what comes after will be a product of the manifestation that took place in the present.

This book is certainly thought-provoking in the way that it really teaches you to look around at the world you are in and to think about what you want. I'm a firm believer in fate, there's no doubt about that and I know other people have varied opinions on what the term 'fate' consists of but I really do believe that we are given different paths in this journey called life.

As 2017 comes to a close, reflect on your own being and how far you’ve come. We spend too much time thinking about the fear or rejection in life but sometimes we have to just push through. Easier said than done because I’m really guilty of it but we have to understand that the universe is ours if we so choose to go after our ‘Personal Legends’ (beliefs/what we want/etc). And why not go after them? We all know we are only given this one body and one mind, so why not extend beyond what we have to search for what we want? In 2018 listen to your heart.

Our heart may be afraid to continue towards dreams because they don’t want us as humans to suffer or be disappointed, but you never know what you could have if you don’t try. Too often we choose to ignore our hearts and its desires to go after what it wants. Fear is worse than not going through with what you love.
